6-28 Weight Loss Update and New Bike

June 29th, 2014 at 02:08 am

It's been six months since I started my diet and exercise regimen. Today I stepped on the ole bathroom scales and weighed in at 165 lbs. This equates to a 55 pound weight loss since Xmas Day. (My Weight Loss Progress Page can be found in the sidebar). Now the quest is to keep the weight off.

So as a reward I bought a new bicycle. It will supplement my exercise routine. It's my first one in about 25 or 30 years, and it's amazing how bikes have changed. I researched them on the internet, and visited several sporting goods stores, big box stores, and dedicated bike shops. I decided not to go with the cheapest or the most expensive either.

The mid range model I chose after test riding several today is the JAMIS Citizen 1. I charged it on the new CHASE Freedom card with the current $200 Bonus for charging $500 in the first three months, so that $200 will help pay for it.

I don't know how to upload and post pictures, so here it is on the JAMIS website:

I'm in the market for a new bike. Will you share a bit about why you chose this one?

How wonderful to get to your goal so quickly. Perfect reward as riding is so satisfying. Does you community have dedicated bike paths?

@ Petunia 100: I was originally interested in the Cruiser style bikes, because of riding in a more upright position. But after test riding a couple of them, they were less maneuverable because of the higher and wider handle bars and fatter tires. The Road bikes requires one to be a prolonged hunched-over position, which would have been too much for me at my age, 60ish, and harder on my back. This Hybrid is a great compromise, being more maneuverable and easier to ride (for me anyway).

@ snafu: Yes, the city north of me has quite a few designated areas, greenlines and trails, paved and off road. I would have to drive up there though, and then ride. But for now I just need to build up some endurance, and I'll get that in and around the big neighborhood I live at. I'm glad it's raining today to give my legs a rest, because I overdid it a little yesterday. My legs feel like jello today.
